11813 Notable Illustrators Phiz illustrations throughoutStuart [1742 1786] was a curmudgeonly writer of literary reviews. With his father, he started the short lived "Edinburgh Magazine and Review," then returned to London to become one of the principal writers on John Murray I's "The English Review." He also wrote on history, especially history of Scotland and the Scottish church. He wrote more broadly as well, with his most important work being "A View of Society in Europe" (1788), reprinted many times.
