The parent was incidentally, the first hosta to receive a US plant patent (1965). Hosta 'Royal Crest' is a ploidy mutant of the original, and forms a 28" tall x 50" wide clump of thick green leaves, topped in mid August September with 3' tall, sturdy spikes of near white, very fragrant flowers.
